QuickBooks Items - Setup & Troubleshooting

Introduction:

QuickBooks is extremely easy to use, but very powerful. This power comes mainly from the use of Items that mask the general ledger accounts at the transactional level. With this in mind, it is important for QuickBooks' users to have a solid understanding of how Items work in QuickBooks, and how to properly set-up, use, and troubleshoot QuickBooks Items.

Learning Objectives:

By attending this seminar, QuickBooks users will learn:

  • The theory behind QuickBooks' items, and the types of items available
  • How to properly set up each type of item in the item list
  • What tools exist in QuickBooks to help you troubleshoot, and correct, incorrect items
  • Using items to accomplish things you never thought possible

Course Content:

Taught using a blend of instructional lecture and demonstrations, this seminar will cover:

  • A refresher of Items in QuickBooks - including Why use items?
  • What does QuickBooks do with items on the back end?
         Ways to verify what is going on at the GL level in any transaction
  • Setting up each item in the Item list:
    • Inventory Items
    • Group and Assembly Items
    • Service and non-service items
    • Billing items to jobs (job costing) and customers
    • Sales tax items
    • Payment and Pre-payment (Deposits, retainers, etc.) items
    • Other types of items
  • Troubleshooting items:
         How to find errors in item setup and correct them
  • Advanced Item setup and use - how to use items to solve special case scenarios
  • Q&A (additional time will be available following the seminar)

Who Should Attend?

This seminar is designed for any QuickBooks user, including accounting professionals, who wishes to take their expertise in Reporting to the next level.

Prerequisite: Basic working knowledge of QuickBooks functionality and terminology.

About the Instructor:

William "Bill" Murphy is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor who has been helping small business owners in Oklahoma get the most from their QuickBooks software since 1989. Bill's consulting firm, RRR, Ltd. specializes in helping clients with installation, set-up, use, training and problem resolution for QuickBooks and related Intuit Software. Bill is also a Certified ProAdvisor in QuickBooks Point-of-Sale and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. He has over 30 years of teaching and instructional experience, and holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree from the University of Central Oklahoma.
