This course presents the initial educational components leading to Pharmacy Technician Certification. This eight-week course consists of 32 classroom hours.
Curriculum includes instruction in state regulations, insurance restrictions, mathematics relating to job performance, applicable law, nomenclature, introduction to basic IV admixture, computerized pharmacy systems and basic skills needed to work in pharmacies, hospitals and retail businesses. Coursework also includes classroom exercises and competency reviews.
In addition, students will be assisted in job search skills including resume preparation, interviewing techniques and networking opportunities within the Oklahoma City area.
Prerequisites for the class are a high school diploma or GED. Good math skills are recommended. A Certification of Completion will be awarded upon successful completion of the class (75% or better)
The Pharmacy Technician I program is taught by Jeff Yanchick, a pharmacist who received a Bachelor in Pharmacy from the University of Oklahoma and has practiced in both retail and hospital pharmacy settings. He is a member of the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association.
