This course presents the initial educational components leading to Pharmacy Technician Certification. This eight-week course consists of 32 classroom hours.
Curriculum includes instruction in state regulations, insurance restrictions, mathematics relating to job performance, applicable law, nomenclature, introduction to basic IV admixture, computerized pharmacy systems and basic skills needed to work in pharmacies, hospitals and retail businesses. Coursework also includes classroom exercises and competency reviews.
In addition, students will be assisted in job search skills including resume preparation, interviewing techniques and networking opportunities within the Oklahoma City area.
Prerequisites for the class are a high school diploma or GED. Good math skills are recommended. A Certification of Completion will be awarded upon successful completion of the class (75% or better)
The Pharmacy Technician I program is taught by Diane Copeland, Certified Pharmacy Technician. Copeland received her certificate in 1998 and has worked in both retail and hospital pharmacy settings. She has taught Pharmacy Technician at the college level and received Instructor of the Year in 2005.
