In the mid-70's, the Child Development Center and Lab School (CDCLS) was conceived as a support to the Child Development Program and as a service to the college. It was housed at Garfield School, Main Campus and finally found its permanent home at 6500 S. Land Ave. in the Family and Community Education (FACE) Center.

Ground breaking took place in 1985 and the facility was completed in 1986.

Past directors of the Child Development Center are Charlotte Wood-Wilson, Peggy Tampkins, Sherry Neal, Kathy Walters, and Dr. Mary McCoy. The present director is Bonita Spinner.

The CDCLS is recognized as one of the nation's outstanding centers. It is licensed by the State of Oklahoma with a three star rating which is renewed annually. The Center is also accredited nationally by the Academy, a branch of the National Association of the Education of Young Children. This accreditation is renewed every five years.

The teaching staff is experienced in working with children of various ages and backgrounds. The Child Development Teachers hold Bachelor Degrees in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field. A number of our Child Development Teachers also hold Master Degrees in these fields.
