John Zdechlik is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota. During his high school years he studied trumpet and began writing arrangements for local jazz groups. Since 1970, he has taught theory, conducted the concert and jazz ensembles of and chaired the Music Department at Century College, White Bear Lake, Minnesota. During this time he has written numerous compositions, mostly on commission, and has had over thirty works published by the Neil Kjos Music Company. His works are performed by high school, college and community bands in the United States, Europe and Japan.
