COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students receive 320 hours of practical experience at one of the affiliated corporations or a university research facility. The techniques learned in BIOT 2823, BIOT 2923 and BIOT 2921 will be applied in an actual research setting to give the student more experience while learning practical applications for laboratory procedures. 3 CREDITS. Prerequisites: (W) (M), BIOT 2923, BIOT 2921
COURSE COMPETENCIES
The student will practice laboratory skills in a workplace setting, consistently and effectively practicing aseptic technique, observing safety rules, following procedures, keeping a scientific notebook, practicing scientific honesty, and calculating and making up solutions correctly.
COURSE PACING and ATTENDANCE
BIOT 2993 is individually scheduled to meet the needs of the student and the work site, for a minimum of 320 hours. Student will keep track of hours, and attendance sheet will be signed by site supervisor.
COURSE GRADING CRITERIA
A: 90-100% average B: 80-89% average C: 70-79% average D: 60-69% average F: Below 60% average Grades will be based on your self-evaluation and your supervisor’s evaluation.

LEARNING RESOURCES:

COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. The student is expected to exhibit integrity: consistent honesty, can be trusted with confidential or proprietary information, and provides complete and accurate documentation. 2. The student uses aseptic technique properly and consistently. 3. The student knows and practices all safety rules and regulations. 4. The student could calculate and make solutions and dilutions correctly. 5. The student can be depended upon to follow procedures correctly. 6. The student keeps a complete, legible, and accurate scientific notebook in compliance with the format and regulations of the worksite. 7. The student is consistently punctual, and completes tasks and assignments on time. 8. The student maintains a neat, clean, work-appropriate appearance. 9. The student demonstrates the ability to speak clearly, write legibly, and listen actively. 10. The student exhibits teamwork: respect for the common workspace, is flexible and open to change, communicates to resolve problems, works well with others, demonstrates respect for others. 11. The student exhibits self-motivation: takes initiative to complete assignments, does tasks without constant supervision, shows enthusiasm for learning and improvement, accepts constructive feedback in a positive manner, takes advantage of learning opportunities. 12. The student is able to conduct an independent project on the site and to prepare and deliver a poster presentation on that project.
