Professional Development Opportunities

BBDiscovery has worked with more than 160 teachers and thousands of students across Oklahoma, through professional development workshops, classroom visits, and laboratory loaner kits.

  • Toyota Tapestry Grant for Science Teachers - deadline this year January 18, 2010. Grants large and small.

    Toyota also announces that the application for the 2010 Toyota International Teacher Program to Costa Rica is now available online. Fully funded by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., and administered by the Institute of International Education, this professional development opportunity for educators aims to advance environmental stewardship and global connectedness in U.S. schools and communities.

    The program will take place June 18 - July 3, 2010 and the deadline to apply is January 6, 2010.  Please visit www.toyota4education.com for eligibility requirements, application instructions, and FAQs.   • The Fund for Teachers enriches the personal and professional growth of teachers by recognizing and supporting them as they identify and pursue opportunities around the world that will have the greatest impact on their practice, the academic lives of their students, and their school communities. The Fund for Teachers provides grants directly to teachers, supporting their professional learning. Through the teachers' unique experiences, they ultimately will inspire students to learn.

  • Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's DNA Learning Center (www.dnalc.org) has a great lineup of long and short workshops for teachers located all around the nation.
    COMING TO OCCC IN MARCH! Come to one or both:
    Inside Cancer - one-day workshop introducing their innovative website on cancer biology, offered multiple locations.
    Genes to Cognition (G2C) Online.This 1-day workshop introduces educators to up-to-date neuroscience research using interactive, web-based experiments.

  • Online Teacher Professional Development Course starting April 2010 from the American Physiological Society. Participants will explore, apply and reflect on Six Star Science, a research-based framework for supporting excellence in science education. Apply by February 1, 2010.
