Biotech Recipes for Agar

 

Agarose gels

 

Each will make enough to pour in 8 gel casting trays each with a capacity of about 25 ml.

 

 

                                                   .8% gels

 

  • Add 1.6 g agarose powder
  • To 200 mL buffer (this will vary by lab.  HINT: make sure the type of buffer you make the gels with is also the kind you run in your gel box.)
  • Use a 600 mL beaker or flask to heat these in
    (If you do not have a balance, you can approximate by using 1/8 tsp of agarose for every 25 mL buffer)

 

 

                                                 1% gels

 

 

  • Add 2 g agarose powder
  • To 200 mL buffer (this will vary by lab.  HINT: make sure the type of buffer you make the gels with is also the kind you run in your gel box.)

·        Use a 600 mL beaker or flask to heat these in

 

                                               

                                                1.5% gels

 

 

  • Add 3 g agarose powder
  • To 200 mL buffer (this will vary by lab.  HINT: make sure the type of buffer you make the gels with is also the kind you run in your gel box.)
