Instructions: Using a Biorad Power Supply for Electrophoresis

1. Turn power on. (Use switch on the right side towards the back)
2. Connect the red and black power connectors to the power supply box. Always connect black (-) to black (-), and red (+) to red (+).

3. Default setting is V (voltage) so it will not be necessary to adjust because you will always be using voltage when running electrophoresis.

4. To double check that the default is set on V make sure the yellow lights are on above the V on the constant key and next to the V on the parameter button. If the lights are on the correct symbol (V) on both buttons you can skip step 5.

5. If the default is not properly set follow these instructions:

• Press the constant key until the light comes on above the V. Note that setting this key also automatically sets the parameter key to V.

6. To set the voltage press the key until displays the desired voltage. (The voltage depends on the lab experiment. See lab experiment.)

7. Press the Run/Pause key to start the run. Make sure light comes on above the picture of the person running.

8. Time the run with the timers provided.

9. When finished running the gel press the stop key before turning the power

switch off. If this is not done it will register as a power failure and will automatically restart itself.

10. Always turn off the power off before disconnecting the red and black power connectors.
