Location, Office Hours, Making an Appointment

To make an appointment to see the college counselor, you may refer yourself by calling 682-7520 or by coming to the Student Support Services Office located by Entry 12. The Student Support Services Office is open from 8am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends and college holidays.

Confidentiality

Your contact and communication with the counselor is confidential and will not be divulged to college administration, faculty, family members, friends, or others without your written consent. We operate according to professional guidelines and state laws which protect your right to confidentiality.

NOTE: Individuals under age 18 who request to meet with the counselor should understand that parents/legal guardians have the right to request information from the counselor. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), ethical guidelines, and applicable laws permit this disclosure of information to parents/legal guardians.

Fees

All counseling services provided by Student Support Services are free to current OCCC students.

Referrals

The Student Support Services Counselor maintains a strong referral network of Licensed Professional Counselors, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists with a range of specialties who have offices in the surrounding community. Some students may wish to seek long term therapy off campus. We will assist you in exploring referral options that meet your needs.

Emergency Contact Information

Important Note: If you or a friend are in immediate serious crisis, please go to one of the local hospital emergency rooms for help or call 911.

The Student Support Services Counselor's office is open between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our office is located by Entry 12 in OCCC's main building. For more information or to make an appointment to meet with a counselor, stop by the office or call (405) 682-7520.

For psychological emergencies that occur in the evenings or on weekends please go to a hospital emergency room, call 911, or call the Department of Public Safety (405-425-2424).

A guide designed to help faculty and staff identify some signs and symptoms of students in distress and effective strategies for interacting with such students. In addition, information is also provided to assist faculty and staff in identifying ways to make a referral to the college counselor.
