It is important to be able to recognize emails which may not have your best interests in mind. Below are some tips to help keep you safe!
- If you do not know the person who sent the attachment, do not open it. If you were not expecting an attachment, or if it is not satisfactorily explained in the email message why the attachment is there, do not open it. If you are not sure whether or not you should open the attachment, do not open it.
- Legitimate businesses will never request your password or other sensitive information through emails. Be cautious of emails asking you to update your account login information. Many times these emails will contain links back to a fake login page which is used to steal your account information.
- Be suspicious of emails claiming that you’ve won a prize, or that the sender can make you rich for a small fee. Never send anyone money based on interactions made through email, no matter what they promise.
- If you don’t trust it, don’t click it!
