Manufacturing provides the foundation of Oklahoma's economy. Small and medium-sized manufacturers are working quietly in communities all over Oklahoma to strengthen and stimulate the economy.
Oklahoma's nearly 4,600 manufacturers employ 145,000 and represent over 17% of the state's gross domestic product. Of the total manufacturers, 98%+ employ less than 500 people. Even more telling is that 88%+ employ less than 50 people. With limited human and financial resources, manufacturers must deal with the challenges of constantly changing technology, quality improvement and the growing competitiveness of a global market. Small and medium-sized operations often face limitations when it is time to update their people, processes or plants. That's where The Alliance comes in.
The Oklahoma Alliance for Manufacturing Excellence helps manufacturers create wealth and bring prosperity to the workforce by providing the leadership and assistance they need to become progressively more successful in their marketplace. But The Alliance doesn't do it alone. As a non-profit corporation, it partners with entities like Oklahoma City Community College and Moore Norman Technology Center and the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. The Alliance has a network of Manufacturing Extension Agents to provide a hands-on resource for improving productivity, increasing sales and reducing costs. They work to support modernization and change in five key areas: technology, marketing, human resources (includes training), financing and business relationships.
