OCCC First Responder Day Remembers Virginia Tech

Security Van

On the one-year anniversary of the shootings at Virginia Tech University, Oklahoma City Community College is holding "Meet Your First Responder Day" to demonstrate the safety and security available on campus.

On Wednesday, April 16, members of the Oklahoma City Fire and Police Departments will be on hand along with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, EMSA, Bomb Squad and other emergency personnel. Everyone will be set up on the plaza outside the main entrance from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to let students and employees know what the different agencies do to keep them safe.

There will also be a medical helicopter landing on campus during this time. OCCC Safety and Security officials want the campus and community to be aware this is not due to an actual emergency, but is being offered as an ideal way to view a safety helicopter up close.

During this time, the campus bells will toll in a moment of remembrance of the students who lost their lives in the shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007.
