Realizing drowning is the second-leading cause of accidental death for children in Oklahoma, OCCC has teamed up with Safe Kids to offer the annual Wee Water Wahoo -- an interactive water safety fair on Thursday, March 29.
Wee Water Wahoo presents water safety and training skills to over 500 kindergarteners throughout the metro area. The students have spent the past few weeks learning water safety in the classroom and will put those skills to the test in the largest swimming pool in the state of Oklahoma.
Built in 1989, the Aquatic Center served initially as the outdoor venue for all aquatic competitions during the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival. Recently the facility was awarded the 2002 National Recreation and Parks Association Award of Excellence and is regarded as one of the top facilities of its kind in the nation. The competitive pool is 50 meters long and 25 meters wide.
Wee Water Wahoo will take place between 9:45-11 a.m. and 12-1:15 p.m. at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatics Center, 7777 S. May Ave. (Parking Lot E; Entry # 8)
