A new face to Oklahoma City Community College takes a lead role as vice president for academic affairs. OCCC administrators announced Dr. Felix Aquino was hired to fill the spot vacated by Dr. Paul Sechrist who was appointed president of the college.
Aquino previously served the past three and a half years as vice chancellor of educational services at the State Center Community College District in Fresno, Calif. The district includes two community colleges and three collegiate centers.
“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Aquino,” said OCCC President Paul Sechrist.
"Throughout his career, he has established a proven track record of excellence in academic administration. His strong leadership is vital to Oklahoma City Community College’s growth.”
In his new role as vice president for academic affairs, Aquino will oversee and supervise all personnel and budgetary matters for all academic divisions including;
Arts and Humanities
Business
Health Professions
Information Technology
Science and Math
Social Sciences
“I am pleased with the opportunity I have been given here at Oklahoma City Community College,” Dr. Aquino said. “My wife has deep roots in Oklahoma and we are happy to be back here and close to our friends and family.”
Aquino earned his baccalaureate degree from Queens College in Flushing, N.Y. and both his master's and Ph.D. in anthropology from Boston University in Mass.
Prior to assuming his former administrative position at State Center Community College District, Aquino was President of San Diego Community College District, one of the largest non-credit vocational and life skills training programs in the country.
