OCCC Brings Christmas to Oklahoma City Elementary Students

Teddy bears, skateboards, Barbies and remote controlled cars will fill the cafeteria of a south side elementary school this week. For the ninth year in a row, students from Oklahoma City Community College and Westmoore High School are working together to provide a Christmas party for kindergartners at Oklahoma City's Rockwood Elementary School at 3101 SW 24.

OCCC's Hispanic Organization to Promote Education (HOPE) will deliver more than 100 gifts to the children at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 7. Members of Westmoore's Multicultural Club also helped purchase the presents.

"I think it is great that we can all work together for a great cause," said Omar Lozano. Lozano serves as HOPE president and the occasional Seņor Santa Claus. "We had a lot of kids to buy for this year. We couldn't have done it without Westmoore's help. I want to especially thank them for their generosity."

Last month, the children got out their crayons and pencils and drew pictures of what they wanted for Christmas. Westmoore and OCCC students, faculty and staff bought gifts for the party based on the drawings.
