For two years in a row, OCCC professor Charlotte Mulvihill has received major national teaching awards. Named Biotechnology Teacher of the Year by the National Association of Biology Teachers last year, Mulvihill this year has received the Two-Year College Teaching award from the National Association of Biology Teachers.
Charlotte Mulvihill, Program Director and Professor of Biotechnology, was instrumental in establishing OCCC's one-of-a-kind biotechnology program and community outreach program, which helps establish biotechnology programs in Oklahoma high schools. Mulvihill was first honored with the award last year.
The National Association of Biology Teachers distributes grants year round for research and educational improvements. OCCC's outreach program received grants from NSF and NIH last year and continuation of that grant this year.
Along with her membership in NABT, Mulvihill is a member of the American Society of Microbiology, National Science Teachers Association and the Society of College Science Teachers.
Mulvihill has taught at OCCC for nine years. Prior to coming to OCCC, she taught at colleges in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, the University of Washington with a master's in Microbiology and a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.
