OCCC Professor Brings Robert S. Kerr to the Screen

A documentary on "the father of modern Oklahoma" written and directed by OCCC film and video professor Greg Mellott, debuted on OETA on November 12.

Dream No Little Dream is an inspiring film about a man who survived great tragedy and heartbreak to go on and become the first native born governor and senator from Oklahoma, Robert S. Kerr. It is the culmination of years of work by Mellott, as well as graduates of the OCCC Film and Video Program, along with adjunct professors and several current students. The documentary was produced by the Centennial Commission, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, and the surviving sons and daughter of Kerr.

The production shows how following years of tremendous dust storms and massive flooding, Robert S. Kerr truly cared about the people of Oklahoma, and brought the Sooner State from dust to greatness. Look around you and you'll see the evidence of that everywhere you look in the state. Kerr not only helped Oklahoma overcome tragedy and hardships, but his life story is one of hardship as well. It includes dealing with death in his family, a devastating fire, war and drought. "He survived and let the adversity make him stronger," the film says.

Keith Carradine, who played Will Rogers in the Will Rogers Follies on Broadway and in the touring company, is the film's narrator. Carradine says he his proud to be chosen to capture the life and legacy of an Oklahoma icon.
