Oklahoma City Community College Reaches the Community with Technology

In an effort to bridge the technology gap between the community and Oklahoma City Community College, OCCC is setting up computer labs at the following Oklahoma City housing authority complexes:

Hillcrest Senior Center -- 2325 SW 59th, Oklahoma City, OK 73119
Reding Senior Center -- 1000 SW 28th Oklahoma City, OK 73109
Andrews Square -- 2101 S. Harvey Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73109
Shartel Towers -- 5415 S. Shartel Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73109

"OCCC is committed to providing educational opportunities to everyone. Many residents in the surrounding community do not have access to a computer nor do they have the skills to operate a desktop," said Dr. Jerry Steward, OCCC Vice President for Government Relations and Community Development. "We want to give them the ability to communicate with their children and grandchildren, reading newspapers online, anything on a computer most of us take for granted."

There will be two computers in each lab. Community members and residents will be able to use the facilities free of charge. OCCC provides the computers and all technical support for this service. The college also offers free classes to teach the seniors how to use the computers.

OCCC will hold an open house to unveil the new computer systems at Hillcrest Senior Center at 2325 SW 59 Tuesday, July 10 at 10 a.m.
