Keith Leftwich Memorial Library is sponsoring the "OCCC Film Showcase - A Celebration of Oklahoma" October 26 and 27 in the College Theater. Don't worry about missing any Oklahoma football. This is a non-football weekend! The event is in celebration of the Centennial and is free and open to the public.
Friday evening, October 26, will begin with two films by well-known Oklahoma film maker Bradley Beesley. Mr. Beesley will also be in attendance to talk about his films and answer questions.
The first film we will be screening is The Creek Runs Red about Picher, OK, that became the Superfund site in 1981 and deals with what has happened to the town since. Mr. Beesley's co -director, James Payne, will also be with us. Mr. Beesley's second film is the extremely popular Fearless Freaks about the Oklahoma band, The Flaming Lips.
To end the evening on Friday, Greg Mellott and the Film and Video Production department will be screening a number of student films.
Then Saturday evening will be the 1931 Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Cimarron. The movie begins with a famous reenactment of the Oklahoma land run.
To end the night will be the fun filled sing-a-long version of the musical Oklahoma!. Mr. Bert Fink, Vice President of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, will be with us. Ruth Charnay, Acting Dean of Arts and Humanities, is organizing a discussion/Q&A with Mr. Fink on Saturday morning.
