With miles of fiber optic lines creating a telecommunications infrastructure across the world, an ever-increasing number of trained fiber optic specialists are needed to test and maintain fiber optics. As a response, OCCC is partnering with BDI Datalynk to provide fiber optics courses.
BDI Datalynk is a leader in professional, standards-based fiber optics training. With certified instructors recognized by the Fiber Optics Association, these content rich courses will be offered in two key disciplines: Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) and Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing (CFOS/T).
"These courses offer 75 percent hands-on activities," says Doralicia Sandoval, Corporate Learning Consultant for OCCC. "The students will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills at the job site right away."
In the Fiber Optics Technician course, students will learn how to identify fiber types, recognize various connectors used in fiber installation and install, terminate, splice, and properly test installed fiber cable to existing standards. Students will also have the option of registering their certification with the Fiber Optic Association. This three-day class will be held October 15-17, 2007 from 8am-5pm. Class cost is $600.
The Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing course includes OTDR fundamentals and uses, return loss testing, and proper maintenance and troubleshooting of high-performance fiber networks. This two-day class will be held October 18-19, 2007 from 8am-5pm. Class cost is $575.
Each class cost includes all study materials and instruction. For more information or enrollment, call Corporate Learning at 682-7562 or visit the website at www.occc.edu/corporatelearning/FiberOptic.html
