The Child Development Center and Lab School on the campus of OCCC has been named one of the first child care programs in the country to achieve accreditation under the new National Association for the Education of Young Children criteria. Recently, the NAEYC reinvented its accreditation system increasing the standards that have to be met to meet the mark of quality.
To achieve NAEYC Accreditation, a program must meet at least 80 percent of the criteria on which it is assessed for each program standard, and each classroom within the same of observed classrooms must meet at least 70 percent of the criteria on which it is assessed. OCCC’s Child Development Center far exceeded this criteria earning 90 percent or greater on 9 of the 12 program standards including 100 percent on Relationships, Health, Community Relations and Leadership and Management.
OCCC’s NAEYC Accreditation was granted on August 31, 2007 and is valid until August 31, 2012. The accreditation must be maintained by submitting annual reports and continuing to meet the criteria.
