Music History Resonates Through OCCC

The Grammy award winning brass quintet, Chestnut Brass Company, brings history to life on stage at Oklahoma City Community College. The group will hold two performances at the OCCC Theatre on Tuesday, February 20. The first performance for students will be at 11:00 a.m., the group will then hold a public performance at 7:00 p.m. Both performances are free to the public.

Chestnut Brass Company performs unique one hour presentation titled Hot Air: the Story of Brass Instruments. The group highlights the development of brass instruments from the earliest trumpets to the present day. Utilizing a collection of historical instruments from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods, and antique instruments built in the 19th Century, the ensemble treats the audience to a rare glimpse into the past. This is a rare opportunity for theater-goers to hear Renaissance music performed on instruments that existed during that period. Music from the American Civil War will be performed on instruments that existed and were played at that time.

The program culminates with a virtuosic display on modern brass instruments, demonstrating how the instruments have been improved over the centuries.
