Chesapeake Energy Corporation pledges $50,000 in scholarship funds for Oklahoma City Community College students. The scholarships provide assistance to native Oklahomans or students who attended high school in Oklahoma.
"Chesapeake is pleased to make this investment in OCCC through our Chesapeake Scholars Program. It's exciting to award students dedicated to educational pursuits and at the same time invest in those individuals who are the future of our state," said Carol Troy, Chesapeake's director of corporate communications.
The gift provides $1,000 scholarships for 10 Chesapeake Scholars for the fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters. The college will be given $10,000 a year for five years for the scholarship program.
"OCCC is honored and excited to have this opportunity to partner with Chesapeake, one of the most philanthropic corporations in the energy industry," said OCCC President, Dr. Paul Sechrist. "This program rewards students who are dedicated and committed to pursuing career goals."
Students eligible to apply for the scholarship must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at OCCC with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The student must also be involved in an OCCC club or a community organization. Students needing an application should contact the Oklahoma City Community College Foundation office at 682-7591.
