Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory and Computer Lab Guidelines

Professional and courteous behavior is expected in the lab areas at all times.

  1. The Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory and nursing computer lab hours will be posted at the beginning of each semester. The Lab Faculty hours are posted on the faculty office in the Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory and on the door to the nursing computer lab. The Lab Faculty may be reached by dialing the Lab Instructor at 682-1611, Ext. 7663.

  2. Computers in the nursing computer lab are for students use during normal lab hours. All students must sign in and out as well as document the specific program(s) they will be viewing in the computer room and the interactive video room to ensure credit for program completion. Each student has their own individual sign-in sheet with his/her name printed at the top. Remember to sign in as well as out. The computer lab is to be used for Nursing related coursework only.

  3. Students may print one (1) copy of a document

    • Second copies must be copied using the copier
    • Violators of the one copy rule will lose printing privileges
    • Course syllabi may not be printed from the Computer lab.
    • Do not save your work to or install programs on any of the hard drives.
    • The computers are checked periodically and unauthorized files, directories, and programs are routinely deleted.
    • Loading or installation of any software, programs, or games on hard drive is prohibited. In addition, any alteration of system settings or configuration is prohibited.
    • Students must bring their own floppy disks.


  4. RECOMMENDED PROGRAMS FOR THE BEGINNING STUDENT:

    • SOS Problem Solving: This program will enhance the problem solving and decision-making skills of beginning students in commonly encountered clinical situations.
    • Test Taking Skills For Beginning Nursing Students: This program isdesigned to enhance test-taking skills in beginning multiple-choice nursing exams. (Assigned in campus lab: week 3.)
  5. Other programs will be assigned to you by your Instructor.

  6. Interactive videos are available on a variety of topics and are included in your assignments and as a resource for additional learning. Please contact the Lab Coordinator for help in obtaining and viewing these programs.

  7. The Campus Lab Instructor will be available to assist students during open lab hours. Students must have an appointment with the Lab Instructor for instruction on skills or written assignments. No appointment is necessary to practice skills or to view sample papers or other lab resources. Students may make an appointment with the Lab Instructor at 682-1611, Ext. 7663.

  8. No children are allowed in the Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory or computer lab.

  9. No smoking, eating or drinking is allowed in the Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory or computer lab. This will be strictly enforced by lab staff. Food and drink may be brought into the nursing conference room as long as the area remains clean and free of trash. If spills or trashing of the area occurs, this privilege will be lost.

  10. Know the location and proper use of fire extinguishers. One is on the pole in the middle of the Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory. The other extinguisher is in the conference classroom.

  11. Before leaving the Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory, please clean the area which was used. Return items to their proper place, straighten linens, throw trash in the receptacles, etc.

    Leave the computer lab as it was found. This includes returning your keyboard tray, chair, and headphones to their proper position.

  12. Equipment malfunction, breakage or damage during practice must be reported immediately to the LRC staff. Willful damage to equipment will lead to loss of privileges.

  13. Put all needles, syringes, cutting instruments, and sharps in the red "sharps" container. NEVER put needles in the trash receptacles.

  14. Never taste or put anything into your mouth unless directed by an Instructor.

  15. Keep noise levels down. Talking and audio volumes should be kept as low as possible. This is especially important in the computer lab.

    Students are responsible for helping maintain a quiet environment :
    • Keep voice volume low
    • No cell phone use
    • Pagers turned off
    • No unauthorized people (children, spouse, friends)
    • Headphones are to be used to control noise and support a quiet environment.


  16. Do not bring purses, books, coats, etc. into the Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory. Put these items in the lockers outside the nursing office. Bring your own lock and remove it and your belongings at the end of each day. Carry only what you absolutely need for school and carry it in a book bag, backpack or other container that you can keep with you at all times. The college is not responsible for theft or vandalism of student's property. Any items left unattended will be immediately turned into lost and found.

  17. Wear casual comfortable clothing which is easy to work in (i.e., sweats, shorts, slacks).

  18. Notify the Lab Instructor or Faculty of any accidents or incidents that occur in the nursing areas. This applies to even minor mishaps. In case of an emergency dial "0".

  19. ACCIDENT PROCEDURES:
    Cuts: Allow to bleed freely and wash thoroughly with water, if necessary apply pressure and cold water.
    Burns: Rinse with cold water.
    Chemicals on skin or in eyes: Flush immediately with large volumes of water.

ALWAYS CALL THE OPERATOR IN CASE OF ANY INJURY OR EMERGENCY
