Nursing Skills Lab

nurse with a patient

As a student in Oklahoma City Community College nursing program, you will begin to gain valuable clinical educational experience in the nursing skills lab. Students learn psychomotor, critical thinking and physical assessment skills necessary for nursing practice before moving into a practice setting with clients.

The Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory is designed to simulate a hospital setting with a central nurse's station and seven client care units or rooms. The Nursing Campus Clinical Laboratory is equipped with clinical equipment and low fidelity mannequins needed to provide lab instruction and demonstration of clinical skills throughout the program. In addition to the skills lab, nursing students will be working in the simulation lab. "Dan" is a computerized human patient simulator and is very life-like. Dan will be utilized to simulate various clinical scenarios which support skill development as well as critical thinking. He is used throughout the nursing program, beginning in the first semester. The combined labs work together to give students strong preparation for the clinical experience in a non-threatening environment which is conducive to learning, the development of critical thinking skills, and mastery of psychomotor skills.
