Policies
The Communications Lab will:
- Assist currently enrolled students with reading or writing assignments
- Offer suggestions for improving a paper
- Offer exercises to help improve skills
- Assist students with keyboarding skills and using the computer
- Limit computer use to one hour when other people are waiting to use them
- Provide a comfortable place to study
- Give priority of lab space to classes
- Assist students who attend class and get instructions from their professors
- Provide equipment and resource materials as available for use in the lab
- Offer guidelines on how to study, take notes, improve vocabulary, and use time wisely
The Communications Lab will not:
- Teach students course work taught in class or available in the learning packet
- Serve as a substitute for those who choose not to attend class
- Read single-spaced, handwritten, "rough drafts" of essays
- Provide undivided attention, especially when the lab is busy
- Determine the grade or accept responsibility for the grade a student earns
- Tell students what to write or how to express their ideas
- Provide paper, pens, pencils, correction fluid, cassette tapes, or computer diskettes
- Assume responsibility for how well or how poorly a student applies the suggestions offered
- Guarantee that assignments done with lab assistance will meet the requirements of the professor
- Assume responsibility for a student's work
