In the mid-70's, the Child Development Center and Lab School (CDCLS) was conceived as a support to the Child Development Program and as a service to the college. It was housed at Garfield School, Main Campus and finally found its permanent home on the southeast corner of the campus.

Ground breaking took place in 1985 and the facility was completed in 1986.

Past directors of the Child Development Center are Charlotte Wood-Wilson, Peggy Tampkins, Sherry Neal and Kathy Walters. The present director is Dr. Mary McCoy.

The CDCLS is recognized as one of the nation's outstanding centers. It is licensed by the State of Oklahoma with a three star rating which is renewed annually. The Center is also accredited nationally by the Academy, a branch of the National Association of the Education of Young Children. This accreditation is renewed every five years.

The teaching staff have experience working with children and, in most cases, hold Associate and/or Bachelors Degrees in Child Develoment or working toward one.
