russia flagALEXEI MIKHAILOVICH BRUNI, was born in Tambov, Russia and began his violin studies at the age of six. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, earning a doctorate degree, and is presently professor of violin at the conservatory. Alexei Bruni, winner of both the Paganini and Thibaud international violin competitions, has performed in more than forty countries and his impressive repertoire includes more than thirty-five concerti. He has been designated an "Honored Artist of Russia" by the Russian government a rare distinction that rewards his artistic contributions and affords him the use of a treasured Amati violin, circa 1632. Mr. Bruni is the cofounder, second conductor, and concertmaster of the Russian National Orchestra. Formed in 1990, this 104 member orchestra has achieved worldwide fame through its heavy schedule of concerts performed both in Russia and abroad. He has been the featured soloist in several recordings made by this orchestra. Recently, a work for cello and orchestra, composed by Mr. Bruni, was performed in concert by the Russian National Orchestra in Moscow in dedication to the great cellist, Mstislaw Rosptropovich. A prolific poet, Mr. Bruni will soon publish his first collection of works.
