We hope that you will have the opportunity to work some of these performances into the context of one or more of your classes. In addition, we will be happy to work with you to determine if we can arrange for a special guest lecture or workshop for your students by one or more of the artists being presented. We may also be able to arrange for special daytime performances for groups of 200 or more. Please call us at 682-7579 so that we can assist you in making the most from having these artists at the College.

Edgar Cruz - Acoustic Guitar

Tres Vidas - Three Women's lives and music by the Core Ensemble

The lives of painter Frida Kahlo, peasant activist Rufina Amaya and poet Alfonsina Storni are presented through drama and music.

Salvage Vanguard Theater - The Intergalactic Nemesis, theatrical radio show

Get swept back in time to 1933 to the world of The Intergalactic Nemesis. Join the actors, in a theatrical radio show complete with sound effects.
Performance - Tuesday, November 6, 2007, 7:00 p.m., OCCC Theatre.
Educational Presentation - The Foley Sound Technique, Tuesday, November 6, 2007, 11:00 a.m., College Union, CU3. Members of Salvage Vanguard Theater will present a one-hour hands-on demonstration of the sound effects from their production The Intergalactic Nemesis. Participants will learn about how sound effects are created and performed and be able to use the tools to create them. At the end of the workshop, students will perform a scene from the show, incorporating the live sound effects. Educational Presentation is Free and Open to the Public.

Anúna - Celtic Origins, Irish Vocal Ensemble

Ireland's Anúna, known for its dynamic stage presence and unique pan-European sound, is a treat for both the eyes and the ears in their new production Celtic Origins.

SPRING 2008

Allégresse - Woodwind Trio: flute, oboe and piano

This exciting woodwind trio explores the rich and varied repertoire for flute, oboe and piano, plus pieces with English horn and oboe d'amore.
Performance - Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 7:00 p.m., OCCC Theatre.
Educational Presentation - Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 11:00 a.m., AH 1C5. Allégresse: Discovering the Joy of Music. This presentation will enlighten students about the four main periods of music: Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary. The trio will perform excerpts from pieces from each era, which demonstrate the basic elements of music such as melody, harmony, rhythm and texture. Audience participation will be encouraged through an interactive discussion. Through the music of Quantz, Gaubert, Goossens, Demerssman, Dring and other composers, listeners will learn that music spanning a period of nearly 300 years can be vastly varied on one level while containing a remarkable number of similarities at the same time. Hot Club of San Francisco - Gypsy Jazz

Celebrate the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Their music, often called Gypsy jazz, carries the listener back to the 1930s to the small, smoky jazz clubs of Paris and the refined lounges of the Hotel Ritz.
Performance - Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 7:00 p.m., OCCC Theatre.
Educational Presentation - Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 11:00 a.m., OCCC Theatre. Master Class with The Hot Club of San Francisco. The members of The Hot Club of San Francisco will conduct a master class with OCCC student jazz band members. Listen and learn about Hot Jazz. The master class is Free and Open to the Public.

Go for Baroque

Brilliant flute, violin, cello, harpsichord, trumpet, and percussion ensemble!
Performance - Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 7:00 p.m., OCCC Theatre.
Educational Presentation - Top 40 Hits: 1640 - 1740. Tuesday, March 11, 11:00 a.m., OCCC Theatre. The most popular works from 1640-1740 will be discussed examining their importance in musical history. The presenters will perform excerpts from the 1640 - 1740 "hit parade." Educational Presentation is Free and Open to the Public.

Gabriela Montero - Improvising Classical Pianist

This Venezuelan prodigy has developed into one of the leading pianists of classical improvisation in the world today, fusing classical styles and modernizing them with a hint of jazz.
Performance - Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 7:00 p.m., OCCC Theatre.
Educational Presentation - Improvisation - Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 11:00 a.m., Oklahoma City Community College Theatre. Gabriela Montero will discuss the history of improvisation and the development of her improvisational skills. Based on suggestions from the audience, she will exemplify her comments with improvisational performances. Educational Presentation is Free and Open to the Public.
