9-9:30 am – Buses arrive - Teachers with students register and obtain badges.

CU 1  Treatments for Now!  Hope for the Future!  The Oklahoma biomedical research and industry panel – OKC activities: DNA Solutions; InterGenetics; Immunomycologics; Riley Genomics.

 

CU 2    Genetics Hits YOUR Home:  Newborn screening and family medical history. Melissa Hall, OCCC biotech grad and genetic counselor, Sharon Vaz, State Genetics Education Coordinator, OK State Health Dept  and chair of GECO (Genetics Education Committee of Oklahoma).

 

CU 3    The Future Scientific Workforce– YOU  (Science Careers) OCCC faculty in biotech, bioinfo, nanotech, and Clinical Trials Coordinator.

 

Session II  10:15 – 10:55 am   Choose from:

 

CU 1     Treatments for Now!  Hope for the Future!  The Oklahoma biomedical research and industry panel – what’s going on in OKC.  DNA Solutions; InterGenetics; Immunomycologics, Riley Genomics.

 

 CU 2    Families Living with Genetic Disorders (panel of speakers from genetic disease support groups of Oklahoma )

CU 3     Stems Cells – the Hope and the Hype. James J. Tomasek, Ph.D., President's Associates, Presidential Professor of Cell Biology, David Ross Boyd Professor, Dean, Graduate College, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center

 

11:45-12:45     Pizza Lunch, visits to educational exhibits.

Booths to include:  GECO – Genetics Toolkit for teachers.  A table of materials from the Oklahoma Genetics support groups.  Health and Science career information on OCCC programs.  Health and Science career information from neighboring four-year institutions.  NHGRI table with educational materials and posters for teachers.  OKC Chamber of Commerce touchscreen display of bioindustry in Oklahoma.

 

12:45 – 1:00 pm  Assemble in college theater. 

 

1:00-2:15 pm   Liz Lerman’s Dance Exchange presents Ferocious Beauty:  Genome in the college theater.
